Question: Nancy Oswald, RN, is in the school nurse's office at Sunshine Elementary School every morning before classes begin to see children and teachers who have health concerns. This morning she has seen four children who report with similar symptoms. For the past several days each child has had a nonproductive cough, sore throat, and a runny nose and has felt slightly feverish. When assessing the children, Ms. Oswald notes that all have redness in the eyes, white spots on a red background inside the mouth on the inner lining of the cheek, and a skin rash made up of large, flat blotches that often flow into one another. The nurse considers what her next action should be.
