Case: You are a nurse working in the ICU. You are caring for Albert Smith, who is a 54-year-old male with a history of seizures. You get the following report from the Emergency Department: A.S. is a 54-year-old male who was brought in by EMS after suffering from a seizure. His seizure was not witnessed, and he was found by his significant other. It is unknown how long A.S. was down for. Initial vitals were: HR - 75 bpm B/P -68/40 Respirations - 8 breaths/min Pulse ox - 68% on 6L face mask He arrived in the ED with a face mask and was intubated upon arrival to protect his airway. He is unresponsive at this time to voice or painful stimuli. A urinary catheter was inserted, and he had no output when it was first inserted. He also received 500mg Keppra IV. His first set of ABGs were: PH - 7.21 PaCO2 - 105 HCO3 - 31 PaO2 - 70%
