What could be a comment for this discussion: n order to fully answer this discussion, the term hot spot has to be defined. According to research, "a hot spot is a small geographical area where crime occurs often enough that it's predictable. These small areas are known as micro-units of geography."(College of Policing, 2022). I tend to agree that there are more hot spots as opposed to whole areas especially now due to gentrification. Furthermore, many communities are improving in housing and economic status and crime tends to occur in lower income neighborhoods where there are less opportunities which leads to hot spots. For example, the community right outside of my Naval Base in Portsmouth, Virginia has a strip club, cemetery, liquor store and housing projects all in a one-mile radius. As a result, all of the tools necessary to aid in the self-destruction of a community are there and increase the crime. Furthermore, the reason I believe that hot spots are common is because it's also easier for police to control crime in a smaller area than whole areas in a community as the signs and patterns are less visible.
