On June 1, 2023 Elton John signed a contract with the City of Red Deer to perform a concert in Red Deer on October 14 at Westerner Park to celebrate the solar eclipse. On October 10, there was a fire at Western Park and the concert venue was destroyed making it impossible for the concert to go ahead. Unfortunately for the city there was NO force majeure clause in the contract with Elton John so the city is wondering if there is a contractual defect argument the City of Red Deer can use to get out of the contact with Elton John?
