Remember that the more connections you make between what is going on in this capstone class to what you've learned in other OHSW courses, the better your entries will be and the easier they will be to write. The following are some ideas you might use as you engage in reflective journaling.
Example 1
Consulting Reflection
Week 4 was the type of class that you remember long after your done college and looking back on your experience. Even for me and my goldfish memory! It was an educational, fun day. Kayla from writing services came to our class to teach us on APA and it was an excellent reminder for me. It had been about 5 years. I posted the site to our group Facebook so it's all the for everyone to use. She explained it well and had great energy.
Even if I was a robot it would have been a challenge not to find our group's in-class activity hilarious. We had our roles and I was visionary. I thoroughly enjoyed making our communicator run around the class and couldn't believe I couldn't remember a few Lego pieces. I have my Alzheimer's appointment booked, not to worry. Anyway, it was an aspect of the telephone game, but we did a good job, probably because of our communicator and not me. I think the one thing I learned is my group is very competent.
Just meeting working professionals like Julia and Jose is a positive experience. Learning how to interact with quality, educated people is a fantastic thing for me at this point in my career. Our group has some good ideas and are going to take the weekend to think about the proposal. Our clients are ready and waiting for it. This is going to be good! The slide about how people in the workplace can develop leadership qualities. I told the class in my own way how you must gain respect in the workplace before anyone will listen to you.
The stages of group development are real. I've been through it throughout my life. I can feel when the storm is coming, and I want to run and hide in a cave. But the sun eventually shines. Maybe that's where the phrase the sun will come out tomorrow comes from. I don't know.
Honestly, I can't complain about my group. They are going to get this done and well. We have our companies to contact and need to start calling them up now. My role in the group is coordinator but also creative writer and presenter. All our group members are all smart talented young people. We all work together well and listen to each other. It's about respect and conflict management. For example, on of my group members and I started the project on the wrong foot. We sat down together and communicated where we were having a disconnect and ultimately, we both just want to make sure things are done the right way. That's what's going to make us successful. Not being afraid to be wrong, until we get it right! I contributed to the class discussion saying that for our capstone we should just ask our client, what they exactly could use from a group of students that are studying health and safety. It led Professor Lee into the next slide about the 3 main models of consulting.
Example 2
Capstone Reflection
I find that the consulting proposal course allows us to continue to meld together and apply the content of the other courses like a good stew, where the flavours are in such harmony, that the individual ingredients lose distinctive flavours, and become the essence of the whole. It is desirable, as all the learning is required, to be the best in this profession. As a student, and especially a remote student, I am starting to gain confidence using the tools and skills we are learning like project management, concept mapping to help with organization and time management and to plan the capstone project. I am sure the other students would roar with laughter seeing all my tags and sticky notes and calendar to keep things straight! Perhaps a good laugh is what everyone needs as the individual work continues to build.
