Question: You have been hired by the National Automobile Dealers Association and the Alliance for Automotive Innovation to help them understand the impact of electric cars on personal automobile sales. The groups want to determine under what conditions they should advise their members to manufacture and sell more electric cars or to continue developing more efficient combustion-engine cars.

Potential questions to START you thinking about what a model could pursue and what underlying data you may want to look for:

How would the pricing for electric cars have to change in order to become competitive with similar gas-powered cars?

Given the current average replacement rate for household cars in the US, at what point in time could electric cars make up more than 50% of all cars on American roads if electric cars are sold at the current percentage?

How successfully have government incentives encouraged other environmental efforts (solar roofs, EnergyStar appliance replacements) in the US, and under what circumstances can we expect current government incentives to be more or less successful?

What would the proportion of electric cars be to gas-powered passenger cars in 5 or 10 or 20 years, and what factors can promote or impede faster growth?

What would the average income in the US have to be to afford a low-priced, medium-priced, and above-average-priced electric car? Given the historical growth rate of the average income, variations in price, and various incentives, in what year can we expect the average household in the US to be able to afford an electric car?

Is it more likely that Americans will adopt all-electric cars or hybrid gas/ electric cars in the next 5 or 10 or 20 years, and what factors are most influential in this decision? What are the strongest influences on these factors?

Here , here, and here are a few resources for you to start thinking about the topic. You will need to find two or three datasets that will help you understand the situation and the relationship between sales figures, demographics or car buyers, and more. Please paste any URLs you have found into the Discussion forum for this group.

This is the technical portion of your course final exam. It references your personal model on which you have been working all semester.

Using Screencast-o-Matic, Screenfastify, or Zoom or any other screen recording software, produce a YouTube video. In this video, walk your viewer through your data (if using) and the code of your model and explain how you have implemented points 1-10 in the grading rubric posted in the Week 14 folder.

Show how you have implemented at least 3 design concepts and explain the sequence in which your submodels execute and how they set and change values in their variables.

Then execute your model with the following input values: "Normal" values from your dataset (median or mode); extremely low values, and extremely high values. Explain what the output teaches you about the functionality of the model.
Upload:

The NetLogo file to your Google Drive and generate a link available to "anyone with the link."

The video to your @valpo YouTube account and set the permissions to Unlisted (NOT to Private!). Paste the link to the .nlogo file into the "Description" field.

Paste the link to your YouTube video into this assignment.

Upload here your analytical paper describing and interpreting your model, which you have submitted in Part 1 of this exam.
The structure of your paper should be:
Introduction
Existing models and research
The model
Method
Results
Discussion
References
Please use MS Word, 3-5 pages, single-spaced in 12-point Times New Roman font.
