Assessment Description: Backward design requires an understanding of your students. The beginning of a school year or new semester is a great opportunity for teachers to gather information from their students to better serve them in the classroom. Surveys provide the teacher with information such as the student's self-efficacy, level of enjoyment of a content area, prior knowledge, student investment/attitude towards content and school, and the student's interests. A survey can also provide knowledge of student interest in other content areas. This information can support the teacher when planning cross-disciplinary lessons that support students in multiple content areas.
Part 1: Analyzing Student Survey Data
Review and analyze the results from the "Sample Student Survey" and in 500-750 words, explain the following:
What patterns do you see in the data? What conclusions can you draw from the data about the students in this class?
How will this data inform cross-disciplinary instructional planning?
Look at the learning objectives you created for your own content area standard in Topic 1. What activities and strategies would be appropriate for the learning objectives and this group of students? Justify your reasoning by describing how they are aligned with the overall goal of the lesson and relevant to students.
Based on the data in the survey, what additional activities or strategies would be appropriate for the group of students? Justify your choices. Based on the data, how would you differentiate your instruction to meet the needs of all students? Explain.
Part 2: Additional Considerations Additionally, consider other factors that would be beneficial for a teacher to know about the students in this classroom based on your content area. Think about whether there are cultural, linguistic, or cognitive factors to consider and how you would gather that information about students. Imagine you are conducting a follow-up survey to gather this data. What questions would you ask of your students? Provide at least five questions, a brief explanation of why that information is important for you to have, and a reflection on how you will use it when planning, assessing learning, and creating instruction that meets the needs of diverse students.Note: Keep in mind, when surveying your students, to check your state regulations and policies regarding surveying students.Support your findings with 3-5 scholarly resources.Submit your analysis of the survey data and additional considerations as a single document.
