At an archeological dig in southern Anatolia, some roof timbers where found and subjected to Carbon-14 dating analysis. 14C exists in the atmosphere at a concentration of about 6x1011 atoms per mole of C. A mole contains 6.022 x 1023 atoms, thus the concentration is I atom of 14C per trillion atoms of carbon. When living organisms die, they no longer take up carbon in any form. 14C has a Tv, of 5,730 years and it eventually changes to 14N (with no change in mass). Close to where the timbers were excavated, inscriptions were found on a stele that indicate human occupation of the site around 4,300 years ago. Assuming that the timbers are of the same age, what concentration of 14C (atoms of C14/mole of C) would you expect when the wood is analyzed?
