For this discussion post, I'm asking you to explore the topic for the next unit, which is 'Community'. It is a word/concept that seems to be everywhere these days. Here are some questions to consider for this discussion:
What does 'community' mean to you?
What 'communities' are you a part of? This can be very official as in you actively participate in some sense in this community or perhaps you are a member by proxy (based on your background/identity/interests).
What do communities do for people? What benefits come from being part of a community? Think about a community you belong to - what does it do for you?
Share a 'community' you belong to - what is it? Describe the community and what makes you a part of it? What are the shared 'goals' of this community? What is your 'role' in this community?
Keep in mind that communities can be very 'formal' in a sense based on aspects of our identity/experience (Cascadia student community/LGBTQ community/Military Veterans) or more 'informal' based on our interests/hobbies (Seahawk fans, fishing club, music community). If you struggle to identify communities you belong to, explore what communities are available to students at Cascadia/UWB (student groups or clubs). Find out about one or two and report back here.
Write about At least one counterargument and ideas for rebuttal and At least two claims, building upon research and assignment.
Why do you think marriage now shares similar feelings and views as it did in past or is marriage something now totally different than what is was in the past?
