Case Study: The CEO of a digital incentive boutique understands that imperative to the success of the company is a cohesive development team that is able to work closely together. The development team is required to deliver projects to clients in a timely manner in an ever-changing environment. Regular teambuilding activities are held offsite to assist the team with communication skills, trust development, and conflict resolution. A recent team-building activity was held offsite. Participants were asked to express their visions and opinion about company values, or branding in the form of graffiti art, on a large canvas. To create competition, the development team was split into two groups, each of whom was provided with a blank canvas. The task completion required communication skills and collaboration in order to agree on the message to be illustrated. Team members were encouraged to verbalise (discuss) issues and ideas in a calm and professional manner. As a group, a sketch was done, and colours agreed on. Each team member created graffiti by adding spray paint to the canvas. Once complete, a representative from each group translated the artwork to written language and communicated the messages incorporated in the artwork to the entire development team. An informal dinner followed the team-building activity.
