What comes to mind when you hear the phrase "healthcare technology?" Perhaps you think of electronic health records or surgical machinery. Maybe your mind goes to prescription drug innovation or telemedicine. Regardless of your first thoughts, it is undeniable that the advancements in technology in the healthcare field over the last several decades have been staggering. Advances in technology, however, are not without drawbacks. Digitization of patient files allows for easier collaboration and sharing of results amongst members of a care team. It also, however, opens the door to privacy and security issues. It could also create access issues for patients who do not have technology, such as cellphones or internet access, or for the elderly who are unfamiliar with the technology. During this Discussion, you will research issues impacting your selected HSO related to technology and information. You will select one issue, and then you will locate several sources around it. Your synthesis of these sources will help to inform the Assignment in this module.

To prepare:

• Research technology, research, and information issues related to your selected HSO.
• Select a technology to research that has potential applications to your selected HSO. Your selected technology should be one that has not been implemented consistently within your HSO type or one that has yet to be implemented but has potential to improve the field.
• Use the critical appraisal tools to select at least three sources that discuss the use of the technology in other fields and/or applications to your selected HSO. Each source should be current, no more than 3 years old.
