Example 1:

A patient comes into the emergency room and she is 39 weeks and three days pregnant. She comes in because she believes she is having labor contractions. The nurse does the normal routine check and sees that she is already 4cm dilated and needs to decide if she wants an epidural injected for pain medication. The patient receives an epidural and a few hours later delivered a healthy baby. The patient had a successful full-term delivery with no complications.

Example 2:

A patient in her 18th week of pregnancy presents to the Emergency Room that she feels her water has broken. She was transferred to the labor and delivery unit where she was having contractions. While giving her an examination at triage her blood pressure was 139 /80 she was immediately admitted, and labor had started. She delivers one liveborn premature infant. The ER physician diagnosed her with hypertension.
