5. Although President Johnson did sign important civil rights legislation, there are also indications he was not as proactive in advancing civil rights as he could have been. Provide at least one example from the film that suggests this. There are several scenes in the film that can help inform your answer.

6. In a scene involving a protest at night, a young male protestor, Jimmy Lee Jackson, and his parents rush to a diner to take cover from the police. What happens to Jimmy when the police arrive?

7. In a scene immediately preceding the first march on Selma, a group is seeing pulling straws, and we see one character draws the short straw. What did that mean he had to do? (see the very next scene for the answer.)

8. The film does an excellent job of showing us the personal side of Dr. King. It's always interesting to see this perspective on famous figures. What was your favorite, or perhaps most surprising thing that you learned (and that you hadn't previously known) about what MLK was like as a person?
