-Since the late 1950s people have been studying "risk" in a variety of situations. For example, social psychologists have conducted a great deal of research on the "risky shift" phenomenon. Janis discussed how political groups (e.g. presidential advisors) make risky decisions in his book Groupthink. Cognitive psychologists have examined how people evaluate alternatives and information to arrive at risky decisions.
