Globalisation Essay
Task Overview: For this individual essay, you will need to read the online article - '4 questions you need to ask of your post-covid-19 supply chain' first and prepare a Review Individual Essay based on one of the four questions mentioned in the article.
You need to choose one question as a primary topic for your essay based on the four questions mentioned in the article: 1) Is it time to further diversify my supply chain? 2) Do I need to localise manufacturing? 3) Should I invest in digitising supply chain? and 4) Can I make my supply chain more customer-focused?
In the post-pandemic stage, you need to critically discuss how the selected topic will influence the Australian export industry from a global perspective.
Based on your analyses and findings, what practical managerial implications will be considered for the Australian exporting firms engaging in international business?
Drawing on the extant literature, you are expected to clearly define key concepts and identify and critically analyse relevant materials for developing and supporting your arguments about the selected topic.
Suggested structure:
Your essay will consist of, but is not limited to, the following sections:
1) Introduction - you need to identify the selected topic based on the four questions listed in the article and describe why you want to choose this topic. Also, it is required to identify one of the Australian export industries to be analysed about the selected topic, such as minerals, meat, healthcare, agriculture, etc. This then leads to the following sections with a brief preview.
2) Critique (Body of Context) - this section will include two parts:
Part A: Review of Extant Literature
Conduct a literature review on your selected topic. In this section, you are able to:
Define and discuss (in detail) the selected area.
Discuss what role your selected topic plays in contemporary global supply chains.
What challenges/barriers might firms face in implementing your identified approaches?
What are the potential/emerging opportunities to be considered by the firms based on the topic you identified?
Find high-quality academic resources to support your arguments (ABDC: A/A* journals)
Part B: Application of the findings in the literature
Choose one Australian export industry you know, you need to collect secondary resources from the MQ library (e.g., IBISWorld, Passport, FitchConnect, Frost & Sullivan, D&B Hoovers, Business Source Premier, Factiva, and Australian Bureau of Statistics) and discuss:
Which industry is selected, and what is the current performance (figures may be provided if applicable)?
From a global perspective, how is the identified Australian export industry affected by the selected topic in Part A?
What benefits are contributed to the selected industry? What are the potential constraints/risks that would be faced?
Based on the discussions, what practical managerial implications are proposed for Australian exporting firms?
This part will define the key concepts for your arguments; then, it should develop logical arguments about the selected topic, critically analyse the key research themes, and discuss their managerial implications for the Australian exporting firms. Use subtitles to make it clearer. Make sure the focus of the industry or business sector is clear and consistent throughout the essay.
3) Conclusion - you need to briefly reiterate the key arguments and findings of your research and analyses above. The summary of your practical managerial implications will be highlighted.
4) References - you are required to carefully review the relevant pieces of literature and appropriately cite a minimum of seven academic references (ABDC: A/A*) using the APA or Harvard Business Referencing Style. Students must distinguish clearly between their own words and opinions from those sources. Failure to provide appropriate citations, including the reference list at the end of your text, will result in severe penalties up to and including the assignment of a grade of zero on the assessment. The list of references should include only material cited.
