Question I

Examine fasting in a religious tradition. What are the meanings of the different fasts from the perspective of the tradition? What challenges does this fasting give to practitioners of this food restriction? Have you ever fasted for a day or more? Do you, or have you in the past, followed specific cultural or faith-based dietary laws? How did you experience that?

Question II

Provide an example of a time when you were pleasantly surprised by your interactions with someone in the hospitality industry - where they may have exceeded your expectations, dealt with a problem well, or just in general improved your mood.

Then, provide an example of a time you received not-so-great service and what that meant in terms of whether or not you would ever return to that place of business. Explain how this poor situation could have been handled better - perhaps in a way that would have made you give the establishment a second chance or even a recommendation

Question III

In the global market landscape, Soccer is referred to as football and is extremely popular in most of the world. The sport was slower to catch on at a high level in our country. Therefore, the marketing potential of soccer and star soccer athletes was considerably less in the United States than in other parts of the world for many years.

As we look to the future of sport, why do you think that soccer was less popular in the United States? How did it eventually catch on? What do you think the impact of Messi being in MLS will do for soccer in the US? If you were the person in charge of choosing a sport to use in a marketing campaign for your company, would you consider using soccer as that sport? Why or why not? Please do some market research on your own to support your position.

Question IV

Chosen state North Carolina-

1. You are to find one slave narratives from a LIBRARY OF CONGRESS 1930s SLAVE Narrative for your assigned state.

2. In essay format, you will retell to the class what you heard and read about from your chosen person about their slave experiences. You will need to have at least 300 words in this post plus 3 full references due Friday. Remember to explain what details and experiences these ex-slaves gave in describing the institution of slavery and the practice of slavery.

3. Also 2 peer responses that are at least 100 words each minimum to complete the discussion due Sunday.

4. You must reference using one of the three formats and following your major's designated style: MLA, APA, CS, Kate L. Turabian's Manual, and the Chicago Manual of Style (CMS). YOU MUST CITE YOUR SOURCES!

5. Also summarize your findings on this ex-slave in the last paragraph. What did you find surprising or different than based on your own knowledge of enslavement and what the course has discussed so far.

There are some acts that are considered to be criminal in nature based on the likelihood of creating a disturbance to the peace or creating a public nuisance. Other acts are believed to infringe on public morality. Some examples of such acts include, but are not limited to, solicitation, obscenity and prostitution.

1. Do you agree that prostitution should be illegal? Why or why not? What are the arguments for and against the legalization of prostitution?

2. Prostitution is legal in many other countries. Research the relevant law in one of these countries and include it in your response to support your position.

3. How did conducting research and going through each step of legal analysis help you to reach this conclusion? Analyze how you applied critical thinking and legal analytical skills to assist you in this regard. What new research and/or analytical tool or method did you try for the first time this week? What do you think you do well and what would you like to strengthen so that you continue to improve?

Part I

After a defendant is found guilty, there is the sentencing and appeal phase of the process. Most attorneys will file an appeal on behalf of the defendant if there is an appealable issue. Sometimes the judge grants a lot of discussion in determining a defendant's sentence. Other times, the judge's hands are tied based on the mandatory minimum sentencing laws. This discussion asks you to examine the sentencing and appeal phase of the criminal process.

Discuss each of the following:

1. Are judges given too much discretion when it comes to sentencing? What are some of the factors a judge looks at when determining an appropriate sentence?

2. What is the difference between a determinate and indeterminate sentence? Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each. Do you think mandatory minimum sentences serve any real purpose?

Part II

Based on the facts provided to you in Week 1 discussion, the investigation report, the confession by Mayo and the witness statements made by Dietz and Joe answer the following:

Assuming Mayo is found guilty at trial, what would you recommend as an appropriate sentence for Mayo? Please answer this question from both positions of being the prosecutor and the defense attorney representing Mayo. Discuss why and make sure to support your thoughts with legal analysis.

Select a process improvement tool. Provide an example of a potential issue and demonstrate how you would use the tool. Provide rationale for why you selected the tool you did for the issue you chose.

Question XI

1. Give an original example of a situation in which cost-effectiveness analysis and cost-utility analysis would give you contrary results. Substantiate your answer.

2. Suppose you had the opportunity to organize the perfect healthcare system. Explain how you would organize the financing method, reimbursement method, mode of production, and physician referral procedure.

Question XII

Assume that as a music reporter for a newspaper, you have the opportunity to interview a Baroque composer for an article you are writing.

1. Choose a composer from the Baroque period.

2. Name the composer in your post.

3. Listen to two compositions written by that composer. Name the compositions in your post. (Note: You may choose a composer not discussed in this week's reading.)

List five questions you would ask and what you think the composer's answers would be. (Three questions should be related to music.) Include a link to an example of that composer's music in your response. Include a thoughtful subject line that reflects your main points. Initial posts should be well developed and demonstrate understanding of the course materials using information from the reading or other scholarly sources to support your ideas.

Considering all you have learned so far, why do you need a moral compass? Considering all of the theories (or any others you have researched) which theory or theories best fit your personal disposition and how can you use this theory or theories to develop criteria for determining the morality of future actions?
