Assignment Task: Did you know that it's estimated that the average American uses 140 to 150 gallons of water a day? We use on average about 13,000 gallons yearly to flush our toilets! That's an incredible amount of water use! What's more shocking is that in Texas, the TCEQ, says that at this rate the state will only have enough water to meet 85% of our needs by mid to late century.
1) So, what can you do to save water and prevent pollution? Go around your house, pay attention to your habits, look at your landscape, what about those water bottles....... This week tell us how you are using your water and list at least 5 things you can do to conserve! The book has a list. Use that as a guideline but don't just regurgitate that list for us. Put some thought into this. I want what you truly feel in your environment you can do to help with the water crisis. Your original post should at least 100 words and your replies are expected to be at least 3 to 5 sentences.
2) Reply to two of your classmates' posts in a substantive manner.

Post 1: I have always been known is the water girl. I am very picky on my drinking water and I feel it's important to take care of the water we have. One thing I may not do as well is conserve water and it's great to read that there are better ways to use our water. Taking shorter showers is something I need to change on my daily routine. My house does not flush the toilet every time we use the bathroom, some may think that's gross but it does save water and this is done mainly in the night time. It helps we all have our own bathrooms! I do my best not to drink out of water bottles mainly for bpa reasons, I use a filter and carry a reusable water bottle with me. We have a pool and we make sure our pool is on a timer so that we are not using too much water, saves on the bill too! One thing I have always done to conserve water is I only do laundry once a week and hand wash my dishes.
Post 2: Other than drinking water, the main ways I use water are for showering, washing my hands, brushing my teeth, laundry, and washing dishes. One of my water waste issues is that I often pour large cups of ice water throughout the day that I don't finish and I end up pouring the rest in the sink. To conserve water, I can use smaller cups so that I only get as much water as I will actually use. Another way I can conserve water is by doing large loads of laundry rather than doing multiple smaller loads throughout the week. Similar to doing less small loads of laundry, I can wait for the dishes to accumulate and wash them all together in a tub of water rather than running the water for each individual dish. Another water waste issue I have is that I am used to washing my car with a hose and sponge, but I can conserve water by using a bucket of water instead of running the hose the whole time. When washing multiple ingredients for a meal I sometimes leave the water running, but I can conserve water by preparing one bowl of water for rinsing instead.
