Reflection: The Value of Employee Benefits to the Organization

One of the most important tasks an HR practitioner faces regarding employer benefits programs is containing their costs. It is critical they understand the best ways; however, it is also important for HR practitioners to be able to explain the value of a benefit. Does it help to retain key employees? Does it improve employee mental health and reduce disability or sick-time costs?

Many organizations are concerned about the rising cost of employee benefits and question their value to the organization and to the employees.

Build a case that explains the value of employee benefits. Using evidence from this module's readings and from your professional experience, take up a position in regard to the following questions:

1. What benefits are of the greatest value to employees? Why?

2. What benefits are of the greatest value to the organization? Why?

3. What can management do to increase the value or decrease the costs of benefits provided to employees?
