1. According to Machiavelli, why is it better to be feared than loved? (Consider Machiavelli's view of human nature and what he believes results when a person is shown too much mercy).
2. Machiavelli has long been praised for either his clear-sighted realism about how political power actually works OR synonymous with an evil, scheming and unethical approach to gaining power. In your option, which perspective is most correct?
3. What does Thomas More believe are the misplaced priorities of European rulers?
4. What kind of rule does More advocate and how is his perspective effected by his view of human nature?
5. Do you find Machiavelli or More more compelling? In other words, is Machiavelli right, that it is better to be feared than loved as a ruler? Or, is More's perspective a more effective form of leadership?
