Case:

45 year old Belmar Garcia was involved in a burn accident from a fire that occurred while she was sleeping on Sunday night. She suffered a second degree burn over 70 % of her body as well as an inhalation injury. Three of her children and a nephew died in the fire, and Belmar is not aware of it. Her husband has asked the hospital not to tell Belmar about the death of her children and nephew, until her parents arrive from Mexico within the week. Upon arrival to the emergency room, Belmar is asking about her children.

The physicians agree with the husband not to tell the patient, but the nurses think the patient's question should be answered. Due to the extent of the patient's injury she will likely be intubated and sedated shortly.
