Alice is nine months pregnant. A police officer gives her a ticket for driving in a carpool lane in violation of § 101. The officer said he gave her the ticket because she was alone in the car at the time. Regulation: § 101. Carpool lanes can be used only by cars in which there is at least one passenger with the driver.

1. Choose a scenario and discuss the points that follow with your classmates on the Discussion Board.
   • Identify all of the ambiguous terms you can find in the statute.
   • Describe the possible meanings for each ambiguous term.
   • For Scenario A, make arguments as to why Alice should not have to pay the traffic ticket.
2. Respond to one other student's post by presenting the opposing argument. For example;
   • What argument can you make that Alice should pay the ticket?
   • What happens when you apply a broad meaning to ambiguous terms?
   • What happens when you apply a narrow meaning to ambiguous terms?
