Question - Multiple Intelligences - Psychologist Howard Gardner asserts that there are nine types of intelligences. Each type of intelligences has been identified in different areas of the brain, and these areas are more developed in people who have that particular type of intelligence. People naturally have two or three preferred intelligences. As they utilize them they become more adept in them. This ultimately builds greater skills, confidence, and self-esteem. For instance, a boy with a strong bodily kinesthetic intelligence may not perform very well in math, but he may shine on the basketball court.
In addition, people can use their preferred intelligences to learn information that they find challenging. Preferred intelligences are people's strengths and should be enlisted to succeed. For instance, to learn the areas of the brain and their functions, a person who's strength is musical may want to learn it through a song. A person whose preferred intelligence is spatial would probably find greater success drawing and labeling a diagram. Finally, a person who has a strong interpersonal intelligence would probably learn the information best by discussing it with a group.
