Question: In regard to gun violence, we do need to do something but I don't think deterrence is a concept that has been or is being used. We need stricter gun laws but even more, we need strict and more harsh punishment for one who commits gun violence. That should start with those carrying guns illegally. However, that is not occurring as it should. Cities are not harsh on one who carries a gun illegally. In Chicago, only if the gun is used or fired do we consider it a violent charge. Many criminals are treated lightly if he or she is carrying the gun illegally. What are your thoughts regarding this?
