Case Study: Church, known as the Protestant Reformation, was the concept that people did not need an intercessor between them and god. Everyone could arrive at truth by reading and interpreting the scriptures for themselves. This lead to many different sects of Protestantism. One of these sects, Calvinism, was lead by John Calvin who put forward the idea of predestination. In the Doctrine of Predestination, Calvin suggested that since god was all-knowing, he must know who will be saved and who will not be saved. However, how is one to know if they have been selected? He urged Christians to live as though they have been selected, to work hard, and have good moral conduct. Wealth, therefore, was a sign of god's favor and having a good work ethic was praised.

Questions: 1. What are your thoughts on the doctrine of predestination? 2. What is the connection, if any, between a good work ethic and having wealth?
