Question: Intermediary sanctions are a form of punishment or monitoring that is used in place of probation or confinement for offenders. The two forms of intermediate sanctions that I choose are electronic monitoring and community service. Electronic monitoring is a technology that is used to record your physical location at the time and send it to your case manager for tracking purposes. As mentioned in the reading, electronic monitoring fulfills three correctional goals: it restricts the offender to one location, it forces the offender to stay at home if they are not physically going to work or school, and it contributes to their rehabilitation process. Community service is another form of intermediate sanction that takes away an offender's time in return for unpaid work. Offenders work a certain number of hours per week to meet the conditions of their community service. It is also seen as an inexpensive sentence that also benefits the community through unpaid labor.
