Asset Forfeiture was intended to deny people the use of property used in the commission of, or purchases with the proceeds from, illicit activity. The process does not require a trial or conviction for the property to be seized. This program became popular as a result of the "War on Drugs" and intended to enable Law Enforcement to intercede when drug dealers were flaunting their ill gotten gains.
