Assignment - Human Behavior Discussion
Q1. Why are you enrolled in this course? (Required Course/Elective?)
Q2. What do you want to learn/discuss about any of these or other similar topics: stereotypes, prejudice, sexism, gender discrimination, disability or other types of discrimination?
Q3. What are your thoughts about criminal justice reform, community policing, police engagement with citizens, and any specific police involved death of a citizen?
Q4. Do you believe that a negative encounter with law enforcement could be based on a personal bias of either law enforcement personnel or citizens? Why or why not?
Q5. What do you think our main issues are in today's criminal justice system (The Four Components (4 C's) of CJ System are citizens/cops/courts/corrections)?
Q6. What do you think would be helpful for you and your classmates to learn about how stereotypes, personal bias/prejudice, or discrimination (sex/gender/disability/other) impacts our criminal justice system?
Q7. How familiar are you with self-identification or "identity"? How do you personally identify? For example, I ("Mrs. K" - the way I identify myself to students) have never felt the need to claim an "identity", or consciously thought of myself in any other way than human, female, and Black. My "identity"has included/includes the roles of daugher, sister, mother ("Mom"), grandmother ("Nana" = best role), wife ("Babe"),Warden, teacher ("Mrs. K"), etc. All of these speak to what makes me who, what, and how I am, and truthfully...I'm ok with me!
Q8. What are two activities you believe could help another person who is different than you to understand your identity or how you identify? Keep it simple...it is probably not realistic to expect a classmate to have to visit another country to fully understand that country's customs or culture, but what activity could they experience here that would be close to that experience?
Q9. Note: The word "different" for this course simply means not the same abilities, biological sex, gender orientation, color, race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, and/or sexual preference.
Q10. How do you personally define any five (5) of the following current societal terms (without looking them up in textbook or on internet/no wrong answers here): binary, non-binary, cisgender, transgender, marginalized, minority, profiling, wokeness, bias, sameness, cancel culture, extremist?
Q11. What part (if any) do you believe that self-confidence/self-esteem plays in the actors/victims of discrimination, hate crimes, intolerance?
