The client has been taking hydrocodone for knee pain and is allergic to penicillin. As the preoperative nurse, what are your responsibilities to the client? As part of preanesthesia, the physician has ordered for the client to receive midazolam (Versed) 5 mg IV, 45 minutes before surgery. Midazolam is available in a 1-mg/mL vial. How much would you need to prepare to administer to the client?
