Andrea is a 15-year old secondary school student whose parents are concerned about her weight gain in recent months. They are referred to you to help her to devise an exercise program, which will enable her to lose weight and tone her muscles. She is 160 cm tall and weighs 11 stone. When you meet Andrea and her mother, Andrea is evasive and withdrawn. Her mother talks in great detail about Andrea's food intake. Midway through the conversation, her mother's phone rings and she excuses herself and steps outside. You sit beside Andrea and ask her what she wants. With this, she bursts into tears and blurts out that she has been sexually abused by a member of her extended family. She insists that she cannot tell her parents. Just as you succeed in calming her down, her mother returns and resumes the conversation. What are your ethical and legal obligations? Discuss.
