Assignment Task: Students will select a website focused on consumer marketing to review. You may choose any site you wish with the condition that consumers must be able to purchase products or services directly from the site. Do not choose a site that provides product information only, individual consumers must be able to purchase products or services on the site.
Examples of suitable websites include:
- Apple
- Henry's
- Amazon
- Canada Flowers
- Bass Pro Shops
- IKEA
You will hand in a minimum 5 page (2000 words) paper, plus references and appendices (if any), describing your review.
Your review should include, at a minimum, the following:
- Short Description of the Company
- What are your company's target markets
- Information on the sector in which the company competes and describe the Direct, web-based competitors; and Non-web based competition
- Web site statistics, search success. There are many websites you can find that will give you web site analytics.
- Key factors you believe make this a successful or unsuccessful site.
- Google what makes a good website design (don't forget to reference your site). Use your search result to evaluate how your chosen company's website measures up to good design.
- Strengths and weaknesses of the site including areas such as ease of navigation, brand consistency, accuracy, security etc.
Of the information noted above, focus mainly on the web site itself. At the end of this assignment you should have a clear understanding of what factors lead to successful web-based consumer marketing. Do some research in the marketing literature on what makes a good consumer website and make sure you have a solid framework for your evaluation? Carefully describe your framework.
