There are different mechanisms allowing for blood to return to the heart. One structural mechanism is the presence of valves inside of veins. They are necessary to help blood flow back to the heart since the pressure is fairly low in the veins. What is the expected blood pressure inside of the veins? Why are valves not needed inside of the arteries? What are they not needed in capillaries?
