Problem: In 1990, 23.5% of all babies delivered in the United States were delivered via cesarean section. Suppose that this is roughly the percentage of deliveries via C-section at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics (UIHC) as well. Researchers observe the next eight deliveries and record whether or not they were C-sections. a) Let X denote the number of C-sections observed out of the next eight babies delivered at UIHC.

Required:

Question 1: Assuming deliveries are independent with identical probabilities of C-section, what distribution does X follow? What are the values of the parameters of this distribution?

Question 2: Research has shown that Black women have higher rates of C-sections than White women. Suppose of the eight deliveries observed, four of the women are Black and four are White. Is this a problem for the previous calculations? Why or why not?
