Critical Discussion - Epistemology

Read Chapter 3 of Ultimate Questions and watch the video clip below. Chapter three deals with three major theories of epistemology. Epistemology is the study of knowledge, or the theory of knowledge. The three major epistemological theories are skepticism, empiricism, and rationalism. Often, people attempt to adhere strictly to one of these theories at the expense of the others. However, we all practice and/or engage the meaning-making process with either of the three depending on the situation at hand.

For this assignment, you will read Chapter 3, watch the video, and write a two paragraph response that answers the following questions:

(1) What are the strengths and limitations of skepticism, empiricism, and rationalism?

(2) What personal examples can you provide for skepticism, empiricism, and rationalism?

After you post your assignment, you will comment on two of your peers' responses--at least one short paragraph. If you do not comment on your peers' work, points will be taken off the grade for this assignment. If you see that someone already has two peer comments, comment on someone else's work, this will ensure that everyone has at least two comments.
