Assignment:

You are called to a 68 year old male who has fallen due to weakness. upon assessment, there are not any abnormalities with his vital signs but the patient is showing signs of weakness and the family states that is not his normal. you and your partner also notice something "isn't fully right" about the patient. he is fully alert and oriented and not showing any neurological deficits. they are encouraging him to go to the hospital for further evaluation but the patient is adamant that he is not going and is not answering any further questions.

  • as a provider, can we make this patient go to the hospital for evaluation? why not?
  • what can we do to get the patient seen for an evaluation?
  • if the patient continues to refuse, what are the steps of the refusal process?
  • how should it be documented?
