Question: 1. What are the steps of Powerful Interactions? The steps of Powerful Interactions are to Be Present, Connect, and Extend Learning. 2. How does the use of the steps of Powerful Interactions benefit teachers and children? Using these steps helps me as a teacher feel more prepared and comfortable in getting to know the children and building relationships with them. The steps also help you make more intentional decisions about what to say and do. Practicing these steps allows me to approach the children in an effective way in which it benefits the child by allowing them to find another trusted adult/individual when their parents are away. 3. What specific strategies can teachers use to connect with children and families? Teachers should slow down to show interest, keep learning about children, listen to children, personalize your interactions, show respect, guide children's behavior, and keep trust growing to connect with children. Ways to connect with the families is to chat with the child's parents during drop off and/or pick up about their child's progress, achievements, and/or a memorable moment of that day.Reflect on these questions: Are there things that the children in your lab experience like to do that you may not enjoy? How can this make the "just right" fit not work out and how can you manage when it happens?" Respond: Tell your classmates about a time when you didn't enjoy something children did and how you made it work out.
