Assignment: Ethical Implications of Artificial General Intelligence Papers
Artifact I
Overview
Write a paper where you identify three academic disciplines that you use to complete this and all future writing assignments in this competency and select a total of six scholarly sources (two sources from each of the three disciplines you previously identified) using the library's academic databases. Ensure that each source is representative of the inquiry and approach typical of the academic discipline it is intended to represent. Carefully read and annotate each source and then consider the following questions as you develop your response:
A. What are the similarities and differences between how each discipline structures the presentation of information?
B. What are the similarities and differences between the conventions, analytical approaches, and discourse patterns of each discipline?
C. Are there differences in how evidence is identified and knowledge created in each discipline?
D. What kinds of information are prioritized? Is there an implied difference in "value" between each discipline?
E. How is expertise or validity established in each discipline?
F. How does each discipline uniquely speak to or address a topic of global or personal significance that you may wish to explore in later assignments?
Artifact II
Overview
Write a paper where you identify one of the disciplinary perspectives described in the first milestone assignment and consider how that discipline constructs arguments by establishing claims, identifying evidence, and connecting both using implicit and explicit assumptions. Identify six high-quality academic sources written by scholars of that specific discipline and examine the reasoning and analytical processes they have used. Carefully read and annotate each source and then consider the following questions as you develop your response:
A. What are the standards of evidence, support, and justification?
B. What are the dominant assumptions and beliefs within the discipline?
C. What are the consistent means of interpretation of data and evidence?
D. What are the common methodological approaches used by scholars in the discipline?
E. How do your beliefs, values, and assumptions compare with those of the discipline you have examined?
Artifact III
Overview
Now that you have identified multiple disciplinary perspectives and explored one in detail, it is time for you to demonstrate your understanding of the conventions of a single discipline by writing a research paper on a topic of your choice within a discipline you have explored in this competency. It is strongly recommended that you complete Milestone 3 using the discipline you explored in Milestone 2. Ensure that your research paper is written in a manner appropriately structured using the conventions, terminology, assumptions, and sources appropriate for the discipline. Subfields of a major discipline are acceptable areas of exploration for this research paper; for example, botany, zoology, and entomology are subfields of biology.
