Evidence-Based Medicine Policy Analysis

Evidence-based medicine (EBM), previously translational medicine, can be defined as improving care based on empirical research and/or hands-on practice. The EBM's approach is based on either direct patient care (bottom-up) or an experiment translated into guidelines (top-down). EBM is used in either in conjunction or as quality assessment tool(s) for continuous quality improvement (CQI). The healthcare leader must utilize the evidence to promote healthcare quality.

· Explain the process of evidence-based analysis.
· Highlight the major players and their roles in EBM policy (i.e., government, providers, patients, etc.).
· Explain the EBM "Levels of Evidence" as defined in your course text.
· Review the case "Constraints of the ACA on Evidence-Based Medicine."

Implementation of Strategy

Healthcare organizations require astute handling of strategy implementation. The processes must be followed with a contingency plan in place for failed strategic objectives leading to the goal.

· Review the stages of implementation in Chapter 13 of your textbook.
· Review "340B Drug Pricing Program Oversight" case in your textbook (Chapter 13).
· Provide a written analysis of the implementation phases that were used/excluded in the "340B Drug Pricing Program Oversight" case.

Maintaining the Loyalty of Stakeholders

To maintain political, governmental, staff, and patient loyalty, the healthcare organization must provide a sense of organizational stability and view of the legislative landscape. In Chapters 14 and 15 we have researched and investigated the need to align both public opinion with staff trust. The political landscape is the basis for healthcare policy, guidance, state, local, and community support (both fiscal and legal) engaging in political trade-offs to stabilize the healthcare industry (such as in the cost, pharmaceuticals, insurance premiums, and organizational ROI in the healthcare industry). Healthcare organizations must provide the necessary guidance and advocacy for stakeholders in the setting of both state and federal legislature as a voice of reason, authority, and integrity. Provide information on the following:

· Research a policy associated with the Affordable Care Act in your home state or another state that may affect healthcare reform and/or the way health care is provided in the chosen state.

· Describe the policy and who wrote and/or promoted the policy legislature (provide statistical data).

· What are the trade-offs offered to bring balance to the healthcare stakeholders?

· What role have public perception and disinterestedness played in the valuation of healthcare performance?

· Describe how process innovation, risk taking, health policy analysis, and governance "sense-making" provide balance for stakeholders.

Final Policy Research Paper

The final policy paper is cumulative and covers Chapters 1 - 16 of McLaughlin and McLaughlin (2014) textbook. To complete the final assignment you are required to use at least eight peer-reviewed sources with at least two from Ashford University Library. · Choose four policy analysis processes and apply each one to a policy case (you may use a previous week's case) or choose from the list below:

o Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement
o Policy response to the problem of suicide in Australia
o Cross-national analysis of expenditure changes in 27European nations 1995-2011
o Proposition 63: Should Other States Follow California's Lead?

· Provide details on the other policy processes that were not utilized in your research. How could they be applied? Why would they be applicable?

· All applicable information from previous weeks must be included.

· A conclusion MUST be included at the end of the paper summarizing the key aspects of health policy.

Writing the Final Paper

The Final Paper:

1. Must be 10 to 15 double-spaced pages in length, and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
2. Must include a title page with the following:

a. Title of paper
b. Student's name
c. Course name and number
d. Instructor's name
e. Date submitted

3. Must begin with an introductory paragraph that has a succinct thesis statement.
4. Must address the topic of the paper with critical thought.
5. Must end with a conclusion that reaffirms your thesis.
6. Must use at least eight scholarly sources in addition to the text.
7. Must document all sources in APA style, as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
8. Must include a separate reference page, formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
