Problem
I. Using relevant facts, give a Reflective Journal on health inequalities in the workplace.
Michael Marmot is one of the most prominent experts in public health in the world, talking about the health gap. Watch the video on youtube "Close the gap: Michael Marmot [51:52 mins]" and reflect on the following questions below:
Question 1. Summarise Marmot's argument in a paragraph.
Question 2. What might be required to 'close the gap' in the service or community you work within?
Include in-text citations and at least 20 References.
II. Australia's migrant workers left without support in the face of COVID-19 [4.08 mins] Watch the youtube video on "the impact of COVID-19 on international students in Australia."
International students, like Aaren, pay taxes to support a system they have no access to. With the government now telling 'visitors' it's time to go home, many of them are left without options or support.
Reflect on the following in your journal:
Question 1. Can you think of ways that this community may be supported?
Question 2. What assets/ skills did the community already have?
Question 3. What community initiatives do you know of or can help this group?
Question 4. Can you see anything positive for the wider Australian community?
III. There is a well-documented 4-7-year gap in life expectancy between genders in rich countries. Causes of early death significantly affect life expectancy - hence the dramatic effect of AIDS/HIV on life expectancy in sub-Saharan Africa and suicide and accidental deaths among young men in the West. How can we explain this gap?
Question 1. What are the significant causes of death in men and women?
Question 2. What diseases and risk factors for disease vary between these groups?
