Writing a 4 to 5 page essay on one of the following topics. Could someone give an overview to help give a jumpstart on writing a thesis and the themes present to compose body paragraphs. Which of these topics seem the easiest to write about?
1. Recent laws enacted ostensibly to combat voter fraud: How much fraud is there, or are these just voter suppression laws disguised as reform? How do these laws impact voting rights?
2. Redistricting/Gerrymandering: To what extent, if any, has this process "rigged" elections? What, if anything, is being done to stop gerrymandering?
3. "Fake News" (aka propaganda). Do mainstream news media (the "Press") intentionally mislead the public according to some agenda? To what extent are these accusations of fake news or biased reporting valid, or simply an attack against professional journalists? Why would there be a campaign against accurate reporting? Why is the reporting of facts always political?
4. Campaign finance/Money in Politics: How does money impact election outcomes? To what extent does political giving corrupt democracy, or is it simply "free speech" that should be protected (in any amounts)? What are the rules for giving "hard money?" "Soft Money?" How is money funneled through PACs, Super PACs, and 501(c) and 527 groups?
5. How has the rise of the right-wing populism aka the "Alt-Right" impacted the Republican Party and the political system in general?
6. How has the rise of leftwing populism aka "Progressives" impacted the Democratic Party and the political system in general?
7. Are voting systems in the US, including voting machines, early or absentee voting, and mail-in voting, secure and reliable? Is there any evidence of wide-spread fraud, or tampering with election procedures? Also, is foreign tampering in US elections a serious threat to our democracy? What does the evidence gathered so far by credible sources indicate?
