Case Study: The American Psychological Association (APA) has created ethical guidelines for researchers conducting psychological experiments. These guidelines are in place to protect the research participants and to inform them of their rights. Unfortunately, as you will see in the video clip, experiments are not always administered with consideration for the participants involved. Experiments such as Milgram's Obedience Study and Zimbardo's Stanford Prison Experiment (which we'll talk about next week) brought to light many issues related to ethics in psychological research. In fact, both experiments would be impossible to replicate again in the United States because of the ethical guidelines and standards created as a direct result of their research design. After watching the video clip, consider the complexities of ethical decision making in the field of psychology. The narrator of the video says it herself, "Without drug studies, there won't be new treatments. And in fact, Joseph himself wouldn't have been helped by the drug clozapine if it hadn't been tested by someone else a decade ago." With this in mind,
