Case Study: The American Psychological Association (APA) has created ethical guidelines for researchers conducting psychological experiments. These guidelines are in place to protect the research participants and to inform them of their rights. Unfortunately, as you will see in the video clip, experiments are not always administered with consideration for the participants involved. Experiments such as Milgram's Obedience Study and Zimbardo's Stanford Prison Experiment (which we'll talk about next week) brought to light many issues related to ethics in psychological research. In fact, both experiments would be impossible to replicate again in the United States because of the ethical guidelines and standards created as a direct result of their research design. After watching the video clip, consider the complexities of ethical decision making in the field of psychology.
