You are hired as a consultant to give expert evidence in a court action arising from a vehicle collision. The two vehicles collided head-on while traveling on a curve tangent with a 4% grade. Vehicle #1 (a 1980 Chevrolet Impala) skidded 195 feet downhill before colliding with vehicle #2 (a 1982 Honda). The Honda skidded 142 feet. The police report estimates that both vehicles were traveling at 25 mph prior to the collision. This estimate was based on vehicle deformation.

(a) What are the respective speeds of the two vehicles prior to the application of brakes if the coefficient of friction is 0.48?

(b) Which of the assumptions produces the greatest possible error in your speed calculations? Illustrate your answer numerically.
