Summarize: What are the real reasons we meet together as the church? Every generation all the way back to the 1st century has had a parse through the differences between tribal biblical church functions and the traditions of men. Sometimes the traditions of man seem so benign, at first, that they can pass for dozens or even hundreds of years without being challenged. The abuses of the roman catholic church in the medieval era less is more than a Millennium!
For more than 1000 years, there was no congregational worship, there was no worship in the language of the people, there was no scripture in the language of the people, there was no messages salvation by faith, and there were no understanding of the priesthood of the believer. The 16th century reformers address these issues head on. But looking at what the Bible says, they were able to distill and separate biblical principles of worship from unbiblical traditions and men.
And, broadly speaking, almost every denomination has, in its infancy, Ben birth in a return to scriptural principles, leaving behind those who chose to stick with the traditions. Then, one by one, those denominations began to lose the first love, lose the fire, lose the closeness to God, and become the next generation of tradition.
