Case: Assume you are a member of an organizational change team working on diversity at XYZ Company. Thus far, four approaches to defining the term diversity have been proposed:

Diversity means any difference between people.
Diversity means differences related to social or cultural groups. We define such groups broadly to include gender, race, class, education, religion, sexual orientation, physical and mental ability, nationality, ethnicity, work department, job level, and age, among other differences.
Diversity means differences related to social or cultural groups; although there are many dimensions for defining these groups, we will focus our initial efforts on _. (Include a short list of group identities that have the highest impact in this specific organization.)
Diversity means differences of gender and race or ethnic group.

• The initial focus of its change effort is the United States and Europe.

• The firm has 40 percent women and 60 percent men.

• The firm is 70 percent White, 15 percent Latino/a/x, 10 percent African American, and 5 percent Asian; the percentages of LGBTQA employees are unknown; the percentage of people with disabilities is unknown but is thought to be less than 1 percent.

• The breakdown of U.S.-based employees on national origin is 95 percent American and 5 percent from other countries.

• The global workforce distribution is 80 percent American and 20 percent European.

• Internal data on specific diversity issues are unavailable at this time.
