Assignment:

The year ten class is taking trip to a nature park in bushland about 50 kilometres away from the school. The students will be staying in cabins for the two nights they are away. During the days they will be bush walking and studying the flora and fauna in the area. They will also go on a night walk to observe the nocturnal animals in the area. On the second night they will build a campfire to cook their meals and to sit around. They might sing songs or tell stories. The park provides a cleared area with a large fire pit so there will be no danger of the fire spreading. The school will provide kindling and wood for burning. It is early spring and there are no fire bans. The weather bureau has predicted fine, warm and sunny weather.

Risk assessments have been conducted, parents have been fully informed about what is happening and what students must bring-eg sunscreen, water bottles, hats, suitable clothing, hiking boots, toiletries etc-and all the students have consent from their parents.

During the excursion teachers and support workers must provide effective supervision.

What are the possible physical, psychological and logistical hazards they will need to address?

For each type of hazard list at least 6 issues that could constitute a threat that should have been considered in the risk evaluations.
