Kernels of corn come in different colors and shape. They can be purple colored (purple is dominant, P), or yellow colored (recessive, p). The shape can be round (dominant, R), or wrinkled (recessive, r). Two corn plants are crossed; one is a true breeder (homozygous) for purple and round kernels, while the other is true breeding for yellow, wrinkled kernels

  1. What are the parental genotypes? (Again, remember that the organisms are diploid. So give two letters for each trait.)
  2. What are the possible gametes after meiosis for both parents? (Remember: gametes are haploid, so one of each letter for its genotype).
  3. Draw a Punnett square and determine the genotypes of the F1 generation
  4. What are the phenotypes of the F1 generation?
  5. Cross two individuals of the F1 generation
  6. What are the genotypes of these new parents?
  7. What are the possible genotypes of the gametes of the F1 generation?
  8. Use a Punnett square to demonstrate the possible genotypes of the F2 generation.
  9. What are the possible phenotypes of the F2 generation, and the ratio between them?
