Question - A Student Record system was developed under the jurisdiction of the university registrar. The campus registrar office was responsible for operation, maintenance and modification of this system.
There are two types of users: campus registrar as the primary user and faculty administrator as the secondary user. Because this system is mainly designed for campus registrar. To minimize the cost, secondary users were excluded from the system design process.
Faculty administrator only have ready-only access to the students records on the system. They cannot generate reports, download data or search database for students' records in the system. Registrar staffs have full access to the system. They can create reports or get additional information for other people using the system upon request.
There were no explicit objections to this system from both primary and secondary users. However, faculty administrators expressed their frustrations on not having full access to students' records. They sometimes call the university registrar staffs to do certain tasks for them instead of doing things on their own using the system functions. -A tale of two systems: success and failure in a single information system implementation by Catherine Middleton
