Information Systems Analysis and Design Assignment -  Systems Development

Required Tasks - For the purpose of this assignment, you are assumed to be the principal software consultant appointed to shoulder the systems analysis responsibilities in the project outlined in the case study (Repair-Made-Easy (RME) Inc.). You will plan and manage the project as well as investigate and document its systems requirements. For this assignment, you will produce a report that discusses this project based on your understanding of it and the related investigation results through the tasks below.

Introduction-

  • Define the aims of the report.
  • Identify the project objectives.

Task 1: Approaches to Systems Development

  • How would "Repair-Made-Easy (RME)" go about developing its information systems?
  • Justify your choice for the selected approach to systems development.

Task 2: Systems Requirements

  • What are the primary functional requirements for the new system?
  • What are the non-functional requirements for the new system?

Task 3: Project Cost / Benefit Analysis

  • Perform and discuss your Project Cost/Benefit Analysis.
  • Provide an Excel spreadsheet with details about your Project Cost/Benefit Analysis.

Task 4: Project Management and Scheduling

  • Show a Work Breakdown Structure and a Project Schedule (in the form of a Gantt Chart). Explain both of them and discuss how they relate to each other.
  • Given the system goals, requirements, and scope as they are currently understood, is the Project Schedule reasonable? Why or why not?

Task 5: Systems Information Investigation Techniques

  • Who are the stakeholders involved?
  • Explain your choice of the 3 most useful investigation techniques.
  • Justify the usefulness of these 3 investigation techniques.

Reflection and Conclusion

  • Present your reflections about this project (e.g., achievement and constraints).
  • Briefly summarize your findings.

References (must include at least 5 references with their related in-text citations;)

  • For this report, please use the Harvard Referencing Style for citing references.

The Report - You will produce a report that aims to explain your systems analysis results as per the layout and submission guidelines mentioned below.

The report to be organized using the following headings and guidelines:

Title Cover Page with clear details of course title/name, student number/name, lecturer and tutor.

Introduction (about 100 words)

  • Introduction must define the aims of the report.
  • Introduction must identify the project objectives.

Approaches to Systems Development (Task 1: about 250 words)

  • How would RME go about developing its information system?
  • Justification for your chosen approach to systems development.

Systems Requirements (Task 2: about 300 words)

  • List the primary functional requirements for the new system.
  • List the non-functional requirements for the new system.

Project Cost/Benefit Analysis (Task 3: about 250 words)

Project Management and Scheduling (Task 4: about 200 words)

  • Show the Work Breakdown Structure in the project as well as the Project Schedule (Gantt Chart)? What are they and how do they relate to each other?
  • Given the system goals, requirements, and scope as they are currently understood, is the Project Schedule reasonable? Why or why not?

System Information Requirement Investigation Techniques (Task 5: about 250 words)

  • Explain your choice of the 3 most useful investigation techniques.
  • Justify the usefulness of these 3 investigation techniques.

Reflections and Conclusions (about 150 words)

  • Present your reflections about this project (e.g. achievement and constraints).
  • Provide a brief summary of your findings.

References (at least 5 references with in-text citations).

Total Words – 1500. Assessment 1 is an individual assessment. In this assessment, you are assigned tasks which assess your course knowledge gained between weeks 1 and 5 about different facets of systems development. All students will have to write a report showing the answers to the questions in Tasks 1-5. For this report, please use the Harvard Referencing Style for citing references. Note: The above “recommended” number of words in each section is only a guideline, not a hard rule. In any case, the total number of words for the whole report must be 1,500 (± 10% buffer), that is, the word count must be in the range of 1,350-1,650. This total word count does not include the Title Cover Page, references, and figures (if any).
