Question
Which form of anxiety did you choose and what are the most common symptoms? I will be examining worry-based anxiety. The most common symptoms include persistent worry, rumination, restlessness, difficulty concentrating, irritability, sleep disturbances, fatigue, and muscle tension (Marie, 2020). What are two common medications that would be prescribed? Two common medications often prescribed for worry-based anxiety are Selective Seratonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) like Sertraline (Zoloft) and Buspirone (BuSpar) (Marie, 2020). What symptoms do the two medications you have chosen alleviate? Overall, Zoloft helps improve mood and reduce anxiety, alleviating all of the symptoms of worry-based anxiety listed above. BuSpar helps improve overall functioning and quality of life, alleviating the same symptoms the Zoloft addresses apart from fatigue (Marie, 2020). What are the medications most common side-effects? The common side-effects of Zoloft include nausea, insomnia, diarrhea, dry mouth, dizziness, sexual dysfunction, fatigue, and sweating. The common side-effects of BuSpar include dizziness, nausea, headache, nervousness, lightheadedness, excitement, and sleep problems (Marie, 2020). Are there any contraindications to the medication? There are several situations and conditions in which Zoloft and BuSpar should not be used as they could be harmful to the patient.
