The City of London took the agreement to the City Council for approval and it was rejected. The negotiated amount was 10% too high and therefore a new agreement must be found. The two sides immediately started blaming each and therefore a Mediator was brought in to try to resolve the conflict. The role of you and your Mediator partner(s) is to bring resolution to the situation. The pressure has now increased as the project start time is getting closer and there still isn't an agreement in place for an important piece of real estate in the East London Link transportation project. What is your preparation for the mediation? How do you expect it will go between the two sides? What are the key issues, alternatives, and recommendations?
-Which is the most appropriate approach for resolving the conflict based on the Dual Concerns model. Identify why the approach you've chosen is the best approach and why the other approaches would be less effective.
-What are the mediator's interests, the buyer, and the seller's interests?
-How can the interests of both parties be integrated to define the problem in a way that includes both perspectives?
-Assemble the issues and define the "bargaining mix". Which issues are connected to other issues?
-Determine which issues are most important and which are less important.
-What are the key points or issues that you need to communicate in the discussion with the other parties?
-Provide a plan that shows your steps in facilitating the mediation process.
