Assignment - Wireless and Mobile
Question 1 - What are the main operations and sub-operations that a mobile has to perform during a handover? Why are there delays and packet loss during a handover? (Refer to first few class-notes)
Question 2 - Illustrate layer 2 mobility, layer 3 mobility, and inter-domain mobility with figures? Why there are additional delays in case of layer 3 mobility compared to layer 2 mobility, why are there additional delays in case of inter-domain mobility compared to layer 3 mobility?
Question 3 - Please explain the main concept of Mobile IP and show the difference between Foreign Agent assisted and Co-located care-of assisted modes. You can illustrate with diagram. (Refer to Class notes)
Question 4 - Explain how a packet gets re-routed from the correspondent node as the mobile moves from 1) home network to first visited network and then 2) from first visited network to another visited network 3) visited network to home network.
Question 5 - What are various factors that define the choice of a Mobility Protocol?
Compare and contrast Mobile IP, Application Layer Mobility (SIP-based mobility), Mobile IPv6, and Proxy MIPv6 in terms of advantages, disadvantages, and their applicability to support various types of traffic?
(Hint: Refer to slides, Comparison table in my book chapter)
Question 6 - Please name the RFCs that define SIP, SDP, and RTP protocols in IETF. Explain the role of SDP during SIP transaction. What are various parameters that are exchanged as part of SDP. Please list the methods that do not carry SDP as part of their transaction.
Question 7 - Christina and Jennifer are both equipped with SIP user agents and set up a call through their SIP servers. Christina and Jennifer both have local SIP outbound servers. Please illustrate with call flows regarding SIP session initiation between these two users involving SIP servers. What are the typical sequences that take place leading to session initiation. (Hint: Refer to Class notes)
Question 8 - Please analyze the SIP Pcap (PCAP file is in the module) using Wireshark and illustrate a call flow based on interaction between the caller and callee. Please include the IP address of the caller and callee from the Wireshark file and associated port numbers of the SIP signaling and media traffic between the caller and callee.
Question 9 - Pleaseillustrate a high levelend-to-end LTE network including RAN, EPC, and show various network functions in control plane and user plane. Illustrate the protocol stack interaction 1) between eNodeB and MME, 2) between MME and HSS, 3) SGW and PGW and 4) MME and SGW.
Question 10 - Please name various interfaces (up to 10) within an LTE network (including RAN, EPC) and map these interfaces with the corresponding protocols and peer entities in a tabular form. (refer to class notes and 3GPP document)
